Playful forest house in the green

Nature was the source of inspiration for the realization of this forest house for a family of four. The house was replaced by a small house, which was demolished. The place was ideal, because there was a large garden with an impressive walnut tree and space for a greenhouse. In addition, the house was opposite a forest on a quiet road.

We had previously decided that we would design the new house, when the residents got to know us during a renovation project by her brother. Their wish list included a large eat-in kitchen, a cozy sitting area and a basement for parties. The exterior had to be a tough forest house, with natural and dark materials that match the environment. No sooner said than done: the ideal layout for this family home was designed in an inspiring collaboration in which creative parents and parents-in-law also played a role.

The result is a sleek and attractive forest house. On the ground floor, the sitting area, dining area and kitchen have their own “corner” in an open floor plan. The step to the raised seating area emphasizes the privacy. Beautiful light enters through the wide, low-positioned window and through the window with the wooden slats. The dining area and the kitchen have a more open character; the residents walk straight onto the large veranda. The wooden slats ceiling filters the light on the veranda.

The first floor is the domain of the parents, with all the luxury they wished for. The attic floor houses the children’s rooms that have a cozy loft in the ridge. And then there is the basement, which has its own terrace and is accessible from both the inside and the garden. Many parties are held here, by young and old. We also designed the garden layout in accordance with the interior and the facade openings; lines of sight are strengthened and nature comes in. And the greenhouse? It is almost ready.

A report about this fine family home has been published in Stylish Living Magnum Edition, launched at the residential fair in October 2018.
